2011 was a year dogged with many misfortunes and mishaps. Global economy encountered the severest attack since the financial crisis in 2008. Earthquake in Japan and flood in Thailand ruthlessly battered Southeast Asian and even global electronics consumers market. Due to the double disasters, the sentiment on electronics consumers market began to fall. Digital camera market also felt the coming of cold winter and has to face the problem of seeking chances for surviving and development in the adverse situation.

Card Digital Camera Sales Fell Sharply in Major Cities while DSLR Camera Sales Firmed to Support Market in Low Season
According to the estimated national retail sales data from GfK China: the retail quantity of digital cameras in China in 2011 was 15.1 million, down 4% than 2010; retail sales volume was recorded at RMB3.2 billion, down 5% year on year. From Figure 1, we can see market slowed down obviously in 2011, presenting a sharp comparison with 34% year-on-year growth recorded in 2010. 2011 was also the first downward year on digital camera market in recent years. The downward trend was mainly attributable to the shrinkage of card digital camera market in 2011 as card digital camera sales accounted for 86% of whole digital camera market. In 2011, card digital camera sales were 13 million, 7% lower than the same period of the previous year; in major large cities and secondary large cities of China, the retail sales of card digital cameras tumbled down nearly 18% in 2011. Either manufacturers or retailers felt heavy pressure.
