French to English: L’ATELIER FB, DES CREATEURS D’ESPACE(S) / INTERIOR DESIGNERS General field: Marketing Detailed field: Architecture
KEVIN NICKELS
(Architecte d’intérieur & DPLG,
Responsable de projet, programmes Particuliers)
Translation - English Founded in 2005, Atelier FB is made up of a team of discerning individuals with the same unpretentious, clear-cut ideas about the spatiality and functionality of interior architecture. Their work focuses on the structure of a space more than its décor. In this, they aim to go beyond the mere requirements of each project in order to create living spaces that combine high technical quality, architectural generosity and conviviality.
The team, composed of one interior architect and three French state-registered architects (DPLG), operates as a workshop in which each collaborator works in partnership with the client, listening and attending to their specific needs and/or constraints for a particular project. This integrated approach acquired from L’école de Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) in Paris, allows the members of Atelier FB to exchange and express their opinions and ideas freely and offer a wide range of qualitative services in many different fields of architecture.
In three years, Atelier FB has successfully carved its creative signature into numerous projects ranging from a prestige apartment, to an art collector’s studio under the roofs of the capital, to high-end commercial offices and a gastronomic restaurant. For every project, Atelier FB aims to make the most of a space by restoring its authenticity and emphasizing its characteristics. These are the standards that differentiate this team and make the interior architects of Atelier FB authentic “designers of space(s)”.
WORDS FROM THE ARCHITECTS
“The notion of durability is the driving force of all the work at Atelier FB. We prefer not to get tied down with ‘fashionable’ interior architecture but instead focus on the intimacy of every project. In fact, we believe that the conception of a living space also means brushing up against the everyday lives of individuals. And it is on this very understanding that the consistency of our work is founded.”
FLORIAN BOCHARD
(Interior and French state-registered architect (DLPG), CEO)
“More than with specific forms or materials, we work first and foremost with the space which encompasses these other elements. Actually, I believe it was this vision that enabled the particularly rapid development of Atelier FB. Above all, we aim to create relationships with our clients that are based on trust. This is at the heart of our approach and also enables us to deliver architectural services of such a high standard.”
LAURE-ANNE DUPUY
(Interior architect and designer, Project Manager, high-end projects)
“Whether public or private, a worksite is also a sum of parameters that have to be managed on an everyday basis. Atelier FB takes on this responsibility with as much enthusiasm as we have in our belief that human relations are based on respect and interaction. I believe this is one of the things that enables us to maintain such a high standard for all our services.”
MARC-ANTOINE AVONDE
(Interior and French state-registered architect (DLPG), Worksite manager, Project coordinator)
“The sites or locations of all spaces naturally reveal certain lines of appropriate architectural conduct. And it is on this relationship that Atelier FB’s has founded its approach. Our creative suggestions also correspond to this unique character.”

Translation - English STUDY REVEALS EUROPEANS SPEND MORE TIME ON THE WEB THAN READING NEWSPAPERS
Europeans prefer surfing the net to reading traditional print media.
A study published in the Financial Times on October 9 2005, revealed Europeans spend more time surfing the Internet for information than they do reading newspapers and magazines. According to a study by Jupiter Research of 5,000 people in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain; Europeans spend an average of four hours per week on the Internet but only three hours reading print media. Since 2003, Internet usage has doubled from two to four hours per week, while time spent reading traditional print media remained steady at three hours.
According to the same study, television is still the most popular form of media, with Europeans spending three times as many hours watching television than surfing the Internet. In the United States however, users spend an average of 14 hours per week on the Internet, equaling the time spent to watching television. At the same time, Americans spend only three hours per week reading newspapers.
High speed Internet connections have accelerated this trend. France recorded the highest level of Internet usage, with five hours per week. According to findings by Médiamétrie, a French Audience Measurement Company, 18.6 out of the 27.3 million French users surveyed had high speed connections in July 2006. Germany however, is at the other end of the scale.

FRENCH CONNECTION
My love for the French language was born when I spent a year living with a host family in French-speaking Belgium. French language and culture then became a permanent part of my life when I studied at Business School in Reims and met my now husband Xavier. Xavier and I continue speaking French at home with our twin boys Arthur and Pierre. We have lived in Seattle for the last five years.
