Bio
Hello I´m Alex Attewell, I´m British and a fluent speaker of Spanish, having learnt Spanish as a child in Argentina. I have a bachelors degree in history from the University of Bristol where I specialized in Latin American history and the Spanish language. I have a postgraduate diploma from the University of Leicester and an MBA from the University of Kingston with extensive management experience in the cultural/ tourism sector as a museum director and board member.

I began my working life in archaeology, developing expertise in museum databases and collection documentation before becoming a curator and ultimately museum director of the Florence Nightingale Museum on the South Bank of London. As Curator I was responsible for assisting researchers with artefactual and archival queries which included the transcription of historical manuscripts, ranging from the Register of Crimean nurses to letters written by Florence Nightingale. I commissioned translations of visitor information into French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japonese and managed the re-mastering of the Museum´s audio-visual film with a Japanese version. After leaving the Museum in 2007 I settled in Mexico, where I recovered my former fluency in Spanish and began translating under the tutelage of a "perrito traductor" in Mexico City.

I bring to my translation work all my experience of the world of management, having worked in a museum with dual registration as a charity and a company limitted by guarantee and having broadened this knowledge through an MBA in the fields of financial management, operations, information management, marketing and business strategy. I wrote my MBA thesis on the application of online customer relationship management strategies to the charity world. In addition, as an archaeologist, historian of medicine and public health, and latterly as a tour guide in Latin America, I am also steeped in historical research and writing. I have published eleven articles in peer reviewed journals and in national press and was responsible for writing and editing text for 15 museum exhibitions over the past 20 years. Since moving to Mexico I have developed an interest in renewable energy, attending a course at the UNAM where I developed a practical understanding of the specialist terminology in this field.

I now live in the state of Quintana Roo where I run a translation agency with my partner Sofia Argueta. Between us we translate to and from Spanish and English, always translating into our mother tongue. We offer Mexican Spanish and British and American English. We pride ourselves on our careful attention to our clients´needs, providing translations within the deadlines, at a reasonable price and which read fluently like the originals.
