Spanish term

Podemos y Ciudadanos

Spanish to English Social Sciences Government / Politics
Hi all,

When referring to the Podemos and Ciudadanos parties, I'm not sure whether to translate the names of the parties or not. What do you guys think?

Perhaps it would be best to put a translation in brackets the first time I mention each party, and then refer to them by their original names from that point onwards, i.e. Podemos (which translates as 'We Can') and Ciudadanos ('which translates as 'Citizens'). I think I've answered my own question, but perhaps someone out there has some other suggestions? Maybe 'Ciudadanos' would be best translated as 'The Citizens' Party', for example.

Kind regards,

Jack

Proper nouns should not be translated

These are names of parties and they must be kept in Spanish to avoid confusion with anything else.
If you want to give an explanatory translation in brackets, that is OK.

Podemos and Ciudadanos

Hello, as I see it you should leave the Spanish terms because they will probably be understood. Besides, newspapers and texts in Spain do not tend to translate terms such as "Tea Party" or "Yes We Can" and people who do not speak English still know what they refer to.
In my view keeping the original names makes it easier to carry out further research about the situation in Spain (maybe by looking for Spanish newspapers or in blogs).
I hope this will help.
