What is Direct Payment?
Direct Payment is the way State Pensions, War Pensions and benefits are going to be paid from April 2003.

Instead of the order books, girocheques or payable orders that you use at the moment, your money will be paid straight into an account of your choice at a bank, building society or the Post Office®.

All that\'s changing is the way your money is paid. Direct Payment will not affect how much money you receive, or how often you receive it.

If your State Pension, War Pension, benefit or Tax Credit is already paid straight into an account, you won\'t need to do anything.

If you currently collect your money by order book, girocheque or payable orders we will invite you to transfer to Direct Payment by letter and ask you to send us your account details.

The letter and an accompanying leaflet will explain your options and what to do next.

When your letter arrives, it will be relevant to your own circumstances, so please refer to it instead of this website.

Until then, go on collecting your State Pension or benefit just as you do now.

This website contains information for people who receive a State Pension and live in Great Britain.

For more information about Direct Payment or other pensions or benefits you receive, choose Veterans Agency for War Pensions or Department for Work and Pensions for other benefits.

People who receive a State Pension from Great Britain but live in other countries, please contact the International Pension Centre by telephone, email or fax.
