I'm translating a clinical trial investigating use of an antidepressant drug to treat depression in patients with schizophrenia. It's available at http://www.mediasphera.ru/uppic/Zhurnal nevrologii i psikhia...
My problem is, what's the difference between анксиозные проявления and тревога? I understand them both to mean 'anxiety'. However, the results show that patients experienced increased or reduced тревога during the trial attributed to the action of the drug studied, but the text also states that they were allowed to use an additional drug 'Для коррекции анксиозных проявлений или расстройств сна'.
It seems to me that the use of this additional drug would invalidate the results of the trial if анксиозные проявления and тревога are synonyms, as how could you tell which action is achieved by the drug studied and which by the additional drug?
And moreover, how should I translate анксиозные проявления and тревога? I'm thinking of 'anxiety' and 'alarm'.
Thank you in advance for any input.

"anxiety" is a diagnosis (there are various types in the Statistical Manual of Diagnoses).
"signs of anxiety" are signs and symptoms which suggest an underlying condition of anxiety.
"signs of anxiety" are signs and symptoms which suggest an underlying condition of anxiety.
Note from asker:
That makes sense... and it ties in with what David says too. |

Comment: "It's one of those occasions where I'd like to be able to split the points - both answers were helpful, but I used 'signs' as it is wider than attacks. Many thanks to you both for answering, and so quickly!"

anxiety attacks/[state of] anxiety
I'm pretty sure about the first, and I think the second contrasts with it, but I'm not quite sure how to express it!
Note from asker:
Hi David! That makes sense - and it ties in with what TechLaw (the other answerer) says too. I think 'signs' is more general than 'attacks', but yes - it seems to be the difference between the signs/symptoms and the underlying condition. |

: анксиозные проявления covers more than anxiety attacks - it can mean sleeplessness, loss of concentration, memory loss etc "An anxiety related condition or syndrome " perhaps.
