Thank your for your kind response! In fact, the descriotion is included in the text, but not in the abstract. What i have to translate is the "ABSTRACT", so there will be no any descriptions.
Steven Smith Sep 2, 2008:
Will the description also be included in the translation, eg. If so I would be inclined to use slightly, moderately and excessively concerned for the terms themselves.
yuzouren (asker) Sep 2, 2008:
Yes, they are.
The three scales were used to assess the involvement to the patients. Based on the results, the behavior of a nurse will be judged as "involvement" or "over-involvement".
Steven Smith Sep 2, 2008:
If this is a scale then the whole set of items really need to be considered together. Is it just the three in your last few questions? (Sorry if this is a re-post.)
Steven Smith Sep 2, 2008:
It's all relative. If this is a scale then the whole set of items really need to be considered together. Is it just the three in your last few questions?
yuzouren (asker) Sep 2, 2008:
This is a scale for measuring over-involvement.

"excessive concern" or "over-identification

Perhaps a simple phrase like "excessive concern" or "over-identification" might make the point. For e.g., "The nurse may be at risk of being excessively concerned for the patient and his or her struggle and pain, and may over-identify with the patient's struggle to the point of losing his or her objectivity. When that happens, the boundary lines between patient and care-giver become blurred."

別の案としては、”liberal arts major to the rescue!”。。

"suggestibility" is one possibility, meaning "the capacity to be influenced", in certain contexts. Maybe just "ability to be easily influenced"?

Ah, "overly engaged". The term appears regularly. Being "engaged", or "engagement", is needed in order to care for a person without appearing to be a robot, a machine. We have to respond to what a patient or client is doing, saying, feeling (and expressing). But to get too much involved is to be "overly engaged".

lack of detachment

The opposite is probably easier to express in English: professional detachment.

Over-involvement is another apt option.
