Japanese to English Art/Literary Media / Multimedia

Francesco De Sanzuane Jul 22, 2007:
You're welcome^^. Yeah, Paul solution is great!
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
Thank you, Paul. Please put it in an answer. I like it.
Francesco, I appreciate your help.

Maybe ...
"They'll get called 'gramps', won't pull in the audiences in Hawaii"
Can't say I'm too happy with that though.
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
意のままにならない] might be applied to it.
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
Actually I don't know, Paul. If the つれない means your suggestion, how do you translate it?
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
Sorry, actually this is a speech by one director.
paul_b Jul 22, 2007:
Aha. I thought the 「じいい2人で」 referred to the _producers_. I was completely off track. Is the つれない then basically this one do you suppose ? http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/search.php?MT=Ĥʤ&kind=jn
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
The following is their conversation before and after it.
He said, "Shoot Matrix-type film with a couple of old guys."
I said, "You get to have boobs and I have to deal with old guys?
Then he said, "Want to trade?"
I was amazed at and admired his flexibility.
So I said, "OK, I'll take the old guys then."
so I said, "I'll think of something, I'll manage."
And this is what I came up with.

sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
Thank you for your input、Francesco and Paul. I think this might be metaphor for casting or something like that. Or it says that "old guys" won't catch people's attention or something like that. But I am not sure..
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:
sumire (X) (asker) Jul 22, 2007:

I can't go fishing in Hawaii

I'm having a little difficulty following the flow of conversation but could the speaker have been invited to Hawaii to fish with the person trying to get him to write the film? Either to discuss the idea face to face or to encourage him to take the job.
