Italian term

percorso clinico

Italian to English Medical
Hi folks,
daylight deadline and almost out of amunition here...
and this (percorso) is one of my least favourite words
"...nella definizione del percorso clinico del paziente si dovrà adottare un approccio multidisciplinare e multiprofessionale"
This is cancer care again. To me it sounds like what they're planning to do with the patient, rather than what will occur in the pathology as in "clinical course". Do you agree, and if so, any ideas at this late hour of how I can make it through until dawn?
TIA
Derek

Clinical path

Derek,
This is pretty much a guess, but it gets some convincing Google hits that discuss the best way to establish your clinical path, and "Clinical Path-Based Patient Care."
As for making it throught the night, eat an apple. They're surprisingly head-clearing, without the jittery side effects of caffé!!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'm breaking the rules again by choosing too soon, but I already have some great ideas here so... Thanks for your collective confirmation of my interpretation. I am reluctant to use "care" (albeit correct - thank you Elena) because this word is already abundant in the extreme in this document and confusion may ensue. I am very tempted by "treatment plan" (thanks Nikolaus), but your warning about neglecting diagnostics has stayed my hand; as for "clinical road map" I don't think I dare - perhaps when I was younger... Cristina (thanks) has opted for the "course" direction so finally Amy (thanks) has shown me that spades is spades and sometimes, despite my initial caution, paths is paths. Maximum Appreciation and enjoyment and thanks for the apples tip. Derek"

clinical care

I agree with you, Derek, they seem to be talking about pt. care. This is often how we write it in medical records here in the US:

This pt's clinical care should be devised as a multidisciplinary, multispecialty approach.

Buon lavoro e cerca di dormire...

agree Catherine Bolton : In this case, this sounds like the most likely option. Still, I'd go with "clinical course" to refer to the course of the illness, clinical care for the planning of treatment.

clinical road map

Yes, your problem is clear. Percorso here is more the "itinerary"-aspect of the word; it's the way the patient will have to go, mainly as treatment is concerned, but also as interspersed control examinations are concerned. Neglecting the diagnostic part you might simply choose "treatment plan", but if you want to stress the whole complexity, then "clinical road map" may be an option.

Greetings,

Nikolaus
