Italian term
Comunicazione (in this context)
Italian to English
Medical
Medical (general)
Type of conference participation
Comunicazione all’88° Congresso della Società Italiana di Neurologia
This item is from a CV, listing the physician's achievements. It is a sort of presentation made at a medical conference. "Communication" sounds odd, and I don't THINK it's a poster presentation, but they are very precise in differentiating "presentations" from "comunicazioni".
Any ideas?
Hope all of you are well, and thanks in advance!

communication
It can mean "presentation" if this is anything to go by - it actually shows a picture of someone giving one.

However, that appears not to be the case here, as you say they make a distinction between the two.
Then I found this, which tells you how to submit a paper which is simply added to the records of the conference:
la decisione della pubblicazione sugli Atti online open access della comunicazione presentata al Congresso spetta al CD [which must be a committee of some kind]

And this:
All abstracts will be considered a "personal communication" to the conference attendees. Abstracts will not be published in the proceedings, but will appear in the program and on the conference website.

It's possible they also submit a poster, but the Italian doesn't say that, so I'd keep it literal.

Could it indicate some kind of involvement in conferences without having attended or taken part as a member/more active part? An idea

Paper/Report
Hi, I've chosen a low confidence level because English is not my mother tongue.. I think that "paper" might be right in this context, though
As I said in the Discussion, I've found this definition for "comunicazione" in the Treccani dictionary:
https://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/comunicazione/
d. Breve relazione su argomento letterario, scientifico, ecc., in un’accademia, durante un congresso e sim.: fare, presentare, stampare una comunicazione.
I've found also this translation in the Hoepli dictionary
(= relazione) report, paper
• presentare una comunicazione ad un convegno to *give a paper at a conference

It's a brief report on scientific topic during a congress. Maybe: "Paper at the 88th Congress..."?

p.s. I must admit I didn't know this meaning of the word, although my mothertongue is Italian...
