Thanks to everybody for your comments and suggestions; I couldn't be sure enough of any of these suggestions, so just told the agency that I didn't know what "AS" stands for.

Still it could mean that the left eye is higher than the right eye.

Comments from a medical colleague: Non mi sembra un refuso per OS (occhio sinistro). Si sta parlando di diplopia (visione doppia): per vedere doppio hai bisogno di due occhi, non puoi vedere doppio da un occhio più che da un altro. Quindi dire diplopia maggiore all'occhio sinistro non ha senso.

It's nowhere near as comprehensive as ACROMED, but it does contain many terms that aren't included in ACROMED at this time.

Ciao Shera Lyn and Rachel. I'm happy to have Rachel post an answer, but I'm not quite sure astigmatism fits in this case. The sentence starts out talking about diplopia verticale, then we have this AS>OD, and then we have "lieve crociata" -- which I also think refers to the diplopia, all in the same sentence. (From the Free Medical Dictionary: crossed diplopia - diplopia in which the image belonging to the right eye is displaced to the left of the image belonging to the left eye.).

What do you think?
