nevermind my note above Nevermind my note in the box above (except for the translation). I was misunderstanding the text. They are wheels of some sort. Still not exactly sure of the translation though in the context of horology. Thanks for your help again (and again!). :)

Translation of rest of sentence These are apparently something attached to the hands of the watch. I'm assuming by the context that they may be the attached parts of the hands which are in the center of the watch (and fastened with a screw). Not the ends of the hands that point to the hours/minutes/seconds, but the other end of the hand (again, I'm assuming here). Is this what it sounds like to you all too? Anyone know the actual name for these? Here's the translation of the rest of the sentence if it will help.

"Both of the visible _____s of the solar hands are radially engine-turned (milled) as well, and fastened with blued screws depending on the design of the dial."

Thanks again for any help! :)

steering cam

Direction and velocity of the programmable automaton is controlled by the array of cams attached to the top of the large barrel gears (Fig. 37-38). As they rotate they force the scissors-like cam followers to pivot. The cam followers are forced against the cams by the arbalest return springs via the criss-crossed cables. The steering cam follower connects to the clevis and its steering wheel below the pivot.
