German term

Knipsosteotomie

German to English Medical Medical (general)
This appears in a list of procedures:
Subcapitale Metatarsale-Keilosteotomie („Knipsosteotomie“)

I have found this description:

Teangacha (X) Jan 4, 2017:
@ TDVTrans Yes, Katja's answer sounds good.
TDVTrans Jan 3, 2017:
No worries Irene3. I think Katja's suggestion is the best one yet here.
Teangacha (X) Jan 3, 2017:
Really sorry. I didn't see discussion entry from TDVTrans before I added comment and posted second answer. If you were first TDVTrans, then you should post answer and get points.
TDVTrans Jan 3, 2017:
with Phil I think this refers to a wedge that is removed. "Wedge osteotomy" does get a decent number of hits.
philgoddard Jan 3, 2017:
Could it be something like "snip osteotomy", as in to take out a small wedge? The German only gets five hits, and sounds like someone's colloquial term, so it may be possible to leave it out of your translation.

wedge resection osteotomy

I think, "wedge osteotomy" is the proper translation for "Keilosteotomie" (as in "Subcapitale Metatarsale-Keilosteotomie"). In order to be able to deliver a translation of both, "Keilosteotomie" AND "Knipsosteotomie", I suggest using the German explanation you found as a base for the English translation of "Knipsosteotomie" and use "wedge" there:

"Subcapitale Metatarsale-Keilosteotomie ("Knipsosteotomie")
Hierbei wird ... eine ... Keilresektion ... vorgenommen"

-> Subcapital metatarsal osteotomy ("wedge resection osteotomy")

(The word "resection" transmits the idea of "knipsen" and both collocations get a decent number of hits in in Google in inverted commas.)
Example sentence:

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to everyone for their comments. "Wedge osteotomy" also seemed OK, but this answer seems a little better because it distinguishes the term from "Keilosteotomie"."

After further research, I think this is wrong answer. I think the answer is 'wedge osteotomy/ cuneiform osteotomy.'

neutral philgoddard : That's Keilosteotomie.

But is 'Knipsosteotomie' not another way to say 'Keilosteotomie'?
