German term

Lamellenparkett

German to English Tech/Engineering Materials (Plastics, Ceramics, etc.) flooring

This document relates to office flooring. I believe "Stabparkett" is strip parquet, but any suggestions for "Lamellenparkett" would be appreciated. The picture given for "Lamellenparkett" (I don't have pictures for "Stabparkett", unfortunately) shows a wooden floor laid in strips around 20cm long and 5cm wide, all with the same orientation, arranged in rows. It looks like a fairly standard type of floor you might see in an office building. Perhaps my translation of "Stabparkett" isn't quite right; any clarification of the difference between these two floor types would be very helpful!

strip parquet

Lamellenparkett - strip parquet
Stabparkett - plank parquet

Strip flooring has a set width, but the thickness can vary. Strip flooring ranges in thickness from 5/16 of an inch to 3/4 of an inch wide. It is available only in widths of 1 1/2 inches, 2 inches and 2 1/4.inches.

Plank flooring only comes in two thicknesses, but unlike strip flooring, the widths can vary. It is available only in thicknesses of 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch and a range of widths from 3 inches to 8 inches.

tongue and groove parquet

Since the Lamellen- and Stabparkett apppear the same when laid, maybe the differeence is in how they're laid. I suspect the lamellen could be the tongue and groove used to snap them into place, as opposed to glueing.

industrial parquet

Dear Asker,
This request intrigued me since I am currently looking to refloor my livingroom.
With "intense" research I was able to find out that Lamellenparkett is also called Hochkantlamellenparkett as well as Industrieparkett. It is precisely not tongue and groove flooring for the home handyperson, but meant to be laid by specialists. The translation "industrial parquet" you will see is found on international websites. I am assuming that the practice of using vertically-laid solid wood flooring may be a European practice that hasn't hit the "Anglosächsichen" market or has otherwise gone out of practice.

etc, etc.

Definition from the English-language site:
"Industrial parquet
Industrial parquet floors are not layered, they are built up from lots of small pieces of wood glued together one next to the other. Because of the choice of different patterns and materials and the respective different combinations, there are many different styles to choose from to suit many different requirements.

The industrial floors are glued down, sanded and varnished or oiled after any gaps have been filled. Because they are made entirely out of wood, these industrial floors can be sanded and re-treated after many years of use.

Industrial floors are well suited for offices, carpenters shops, libraries, schools etc. In fact they can be used wherever you need a durable floor that is both warm and natural at the same time.
