German term

Werkleiter vom Dienst

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Chemical plant
Section of a document relating to plant safety procedures, one of which is:

Rundgang WLvD (Werkleiter vom Dienst)

While I'm assuming something like "on-duty plant manager", I'm guessing there is a specific title for this role in English that I'm not familiar with, so any help from an expert here would be appreciated.

(is there a difference between a Werkleiter and Werksleiter..? Or WLvD and WvD?)

To answer your second question... ... no, there isn't. Adding or omitting the S is just a matter of regional variation or personal preference.

on-duty plant manager

Given the context of a production area, I see nothing at all wrong with your instincts here. "Duty manager" I would reserve for hotels, restaurants and bars and the like.
