German term

Der Vertragshändler kann nur ohne Zustimmung des Herstellers für Dritte auftreten

German to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Can anyone shed some light on this sentence?
Der Vertragshändler kann als Eigenhändler/Kommissionär/Handelsvertreter nur ohne Zustimmung des Herstellers für Dritte auftreten.

This is what I've come up with:
The Authorized Dealer may act as independent dealer/commissioner/sales representative only without the Manufacturer's consent for third parties.

Does it mean that the Authorized Dealer can only act in these capacities if the Manufacturer has not already given its permission to a third party to do so, or does it mean that the Authorized Dealer can act in this capacity for third parties, but needs the Manufacturer's permission to do so under any other circumstances?

Thanks in advance for any help.

probable typo

I can't conceive of any situation in which "nur ohne Zustimmung des Herstellers" would make sense. It seems to me likely that the text was intended to read "nicht ohne Zustimmung des Herstellers" - or else that it was copied from a template in which there were alternatives of "nur mit Zustimmung" and "ohne Zustimmung" and someone made a mess of choosing between them. I would refer it back to the client for clarification.
Note from asker:
I wouldn't be surprised if it were a typo, and if so, then the sentence is perfectly clear. When I started to translate the sentence, I thought it would indeed say something like you suggested. I'll wait and see if anyone else has any ideas.

agree Brie Vernier : My first thought, too. Hardly makes sense any other way.
