nicht ausreichen

Hello Paula, this expression - das Auslangen finden - is known and used in Austria. In Germany, it is very rarely used and hardly known. In this context, it means 'to be sufficient'. When paraphrased to neutral German, the sentence should be as follows (just a suggestion, though):
"Eine Ausnahme bilden Übersichtspläne sowie Lage- und Baupläne, sofern die genannten Formate nicht ausreichen."

Peer comment(s):

agree BrigitteHilgner : Quite right - not a German expression. "not large enough", "offer insufficient space"

Danke, Brigitte
agree Steffen Walter : Yes, or "if these formats do not provide sufficient space"

do not fully comply

"not large enough" mentioned in the comments is short and best, other options though: not quite serve/suit the purpose, offer limited space/use, not meet the space requirements
