Hello Paula, this expression - das Auslangen finden - is known and used in Austria. In Germany, it is very rarely used and hardly known. In this context, it means 'to be sufficient'. When paraphrased to neutral German, the sentence should be as follows (just a suggestion, though):
"Eine Ausnahme bilden Übersichtspläne sowie Lage- und Baupläne, sofern die genannten Formate nicht ausreichen."

"not large enough" mentioned in the comments is short and best, other options though: not quite serve/suit the purpose, offer limited space/use, not meet the space requirements
