German term

übernächsten

German to English Bus/Financial
context is a commercial lease agreement, here Nebenkosten

Der Vermieter ist jederzeit berechtigt, eine Anpassung der monatlichen Vorauszahlungen an geänderte Verhältnisse vorzunehmen. Die geänderte Vorauszahlung ist in diesem Falle ab dem, dem Zugang der Anpassungsmitteilung übernächsten Monat zu leisten.

This seems like a very simple question, so I must be brain dead again, but I have too much of the document left to go to call it quits for today.

I'd just like to confirm that what this means is the month following the month after the month in which the notice is received. (there has to be a better way to say that, and I will work on that!).
In other words if the lease tenant receives the notice in, say, October, the change will be effective in December?
TIA, Beth

the month after the month of notice

and it translates as "the month after next" or "the next month but one"

neutral Kaiya J. Diannen : the primary phrase is ok, but saying "next but one" here is confusing, 'but' is often used in a 'minus' context, it is difficult to 'subtract' to the future

You're exactly right. If the tenant receives the notice in October, the change is effective in December.

And you're right, it's a bear to phrase!
Peer comment(s):

neutral John Kinory (X) : Why is it? Next but one.

the month following the next

the revisedprepayment in this case must be made as of the month following the next when notice is received.

Better here is "must be made as of the second month following receipt of notice"
Peer comment(s):

agree Melissa Field : also could be *in* rather than *as of* in Klaus' sentence.

agree Steffen Walter : or "from the second month following receipt of notice"
