French term

cuve d'expédition

French to English Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci
I have extremely limited context for this phrase, and the client has been less than forthcoming with assistance. The document discusses the facilities at an airport's fuel farm (depot d'hydrocarbures), including:

cuves d'expédition, les pomperies qui leur sont associées et le poste de commande permettant leurs actionnement et supervision

Research tells me that "cuves d'expedition" are also sometimes referred to as "bacs d'expedition", with the following description: "pomperie de transfert : le transfert de produit entre les bacs de réception et d'expédition (via la station
de filtration), s'effectue au moyen de trois pompes d'un débit unitaire de 300 m3", but there I draw a blank.

Many thanks in advance.

Discussion

Wendy Cummings (asker) Jun 2, 2014:
@Chris I had imagined these to be fixed tanks, which receive/deliver the fuel either to the truck-loaded tanks or via some sort of pipes/pumping system.
philgoddard Jun 2, 2014:
I don't think there's any evidence that they're on trucks. And transportation doesn't really cover it - you have to convey the idea of expédition as opposed to réception.
chris collister Jun 2, 2014:
English tends to be more long-winded here: "the tanks used for transporting the fuel"; maybe "transportation tanks" would be OK, but presumably they are on a truck, so maybe they just look like the tankers you see in airports. After all, how else would you get the fuel from the depot to the aircraft?

fuel delivery tank / fuel delivery reservoir

tank storing fuel awaiting delivery / the one from which fuel is delivered (as opposed to tanks used only for receiving fuel or only for storage)
