I just wondered what is the best translation for this term in the context of a meeting of the Research Ethics Committee members regarding the substantial amendment of a biomedical research protocol:

Catégorie pharmaciens hospitaliers:

Not leaving it out I tend to agree with Joseph Tein (see his discussion entry below), when he says that “it depends on whether your word "catégorie" shows up earlier in another part of your text.” If it does and you decide to keep it, you might, if possible, create the heading “Category” and list the different categories under it, e.g., “Hospital pharmacists”, instead of translating each one literally, which would not sound very elegant. I hope this is clear.

It DOES mean something, and MUST stay.
Each member represents a specific group / profession and I don't see on what grounds could any translator decide that it's just some useless redundant bit of information and make it sound as if members of this committee are there in their personal capacity

As Sheri says, it might be possible to leave off the word altogether ... I'd say it depends on whether your word "catégorie" shows up earlier in another part of your text. All they're doing is listing the types of professionals that comprise the EC; I think there are rules and guidelines for EC membership (they're required to include certain types of professionals in the committee)
