limit stop
i may be just a stop, not necessarily a switch.

: with a 50kW crane motor and several tons swaying in the breeze, I think I'd rather have a cut-out switch than just a physical stop.

It depends. It may just be the length of a control stroke that's limited. Not the movement of the crane.

: Stop is more general than switch and we don't know the size of these cranes from the context given. It could be a simple hoist. Anyway, a stop can be a switch or some other implementation.
