I don't think it could be a media in a broad sense, because for this there is "media" in French, this is may be more about print press I think

Actually it could be \"les medias\" but a private sector, but for translation I would still suggest the \"press\" as far as the author also intentionnaly avoids the double usage of the \"media\" in the original text.
