pont mobile

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
I know this is movable bridge or drawbridge etc. Has anyone seen it used figuratively like this before (it's actually talking about interest rate cuts). It sounds strange in English does it also sound strange in French. Is "lifeline" too far from the French? Thanks.
Est-ce que le pont mobile jeté par la FED et par le gouvernement US pour enrayer cette crise sévère et redonner confiance aussi bien au marché qu’au consommateur tiendra ?
