fermeture de la porosité

French to English Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology soil contamination
L’absence de phase libre est liée à la hausse du niveau statique avec la fermeture de la porosité des sols et à l’immobilisation du produit pur.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Chris "L'absence de phase libre est liée à la hausse du niveau statique avec la fermeture de la porosité des sols et à l'immobilistaion du produit pur."
The above is the source text. I read the above answer about the 'sealing of soil porosity while sealing development takes place with simulated rainstorms.' From a knowledge of D.I.Y. home improvements, sealants are a protection on surfaces and borderlines. The answer suggested simulated rain (soil watering) as a way of maintaining the soil porosity and perhaps also as a test or trial period. Immobilization is a lack of mobility, hence a stability and a grounding for the soil position. I agree with your understanding that a reduction in porosity causes the water level to rise, by the lack of pores which allow water to enter the soil. I believe that the pure product is the type of soil used in the process.

@ Lisa I'm not convinced that you have grasped the process that is going on here (I'm not sure I have either). Where does this "protection" come from? And the simulated rain? I don't see how you equate immobilisation with grounding.
My understanding is that the reduction in porosity (due to what cause?) causes the level (of water?) to rise.
It would be helpful if Neydou could provide a lot more context that would indicate what substances are involved for a start... What is this "pure product"?
Lisa Rosengard Oct 8, 2021:
The answer suggests simulated rain as a way of protecting porous soil. I think the 'fermeture' which is normally a closure is a protection or a seal to help the soil or compost maintain its porous capacity to retain the moisture needed to grow plants or crops. ("The absence of a free phase is linked with the static level increase and the porous soil protection or sealant and the grounding of the pure product.")
Conor McAuley Oct 8, 2021:
The word "sealing" suggests human intervention for me, and I'm not sure that this is the case.

Apart from that "fermeture" indicates, again as far as I can see, a complete end to the porosity.

It depends who/what the agent is who/that brings an end to the porosity. (It should be obvious that I don't understand the start of the sentence in this context btw!)
Yvonne Gallagher Oct 7, 2021:
agree with Chris who should post an answer

I think a more natural translation in EN might be "... with the soils becoming less porous", or "related to a decrease in soil porosity...".
