Expert's report after fire in refrigerating unit of semitrailer:
"La batterie est détruite et s’est affaissée de son support mais la casse du câble positif n’a pas subi de dommages"
Not surprisingly I am more than a little inclined to think this is poorly written sentence, possibly with "subi" where the writer meant to put "causé".
On the other hand there do seem one or two mysterious suggestions "out there" that "casse" can in certain cases be a physical object, one such example relating to botany. Not to be confused with "caisse" of course... which also raises the possibility, indeed, that the writer meant to write "caisse": but can a wire/cable conceivably have a "caisse" anyway?
If anyone has ever heard of such a "casse de câble" it will be Tony M, of course: are you out there by any chance?

I'm pretty sure this is simply a typo for 'cosse' — that would make perfect sense in the context being discussed, where the battery was all melted BUT the cable terminal on the positive side of the battery was undamaged.
This might tend to imply that the battery was melted by exterenal heat, rather than by a short-circuit on its output, which would have very likely cause noticeable damage to the overloaded terminal.
