Just a thought. I agree with "lighting design" as suggested, and with Tony's comment. If you want something invented, what about "light fashioning" to take into account the French meaning of "design" which is only the esthetic aspect.

lumière vs. éclairage I sense a fine distinction - the first is what is emitted by the source (color, spectral contents, spacial dispersion, etc.), the second is what reaches the illuminated objects - and is returned to our eyes. The first is the intrinsic property of the light source, regardless of what is illuminated.
