English term

secondary

English Bus/Financial Retail
I'm translating a list of phrases for an online retail store. Here's a selection:

''Natrium (per 100 Units):
Natrium (per Serving):
Net Content (secondary)
Alcohol by Volume:
SaltEquivalent (per 100 Units):
SaltEquivalent (per Serving):
Storage Temp. Max.:
Storage Temp. Min.:''

I'm not clear on ''secondary''. What does it mean, assuming it refers to net content?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very true And knowing how that is translated correctly is what distinguishes a native speaker and someone who works in the field.
Veronika McLaren Dec 2, 2014:
However, the chemical symbol is Na...
Shera Lyn Parpia Dec 2, 2014:
Then .... that is probably also a bad translation. Anyone with a science background knows what it means, of course, but I do not think a native speaker would ever use it :) - it's Latin.
AllegroTrans Dec 2, 2014:
Natrium is an archaic word for Sodium, but I have seen it used on food packaging several times.
Shera Lyn Parpia Dec 2, 2014:
This sounds like ... a bad translation from another language. Which English speaker would ever use Natrium instead of Sodium?

secondary packaging

In a "package within a package", it's the net contents of the innermost package, as explained here:
Differentiation between primary package and secondary packages in a one to
one (1:1) relationship
Some healthcare processes require the capability to clearly differentiate between a healthcare trade
item in its primary and secondary packaging, even if they share a “one to one” (1:1) relationship. An
example could be a tube of cream in a box, a vial in a box, a single, multiple quantity blister card in a
box or a syringe in a unit carton. In this situation the trade item primary package and secondary
package may have different GTINs assigned when required by regulation or as agreed within a trading
partner relationship. GTIN allocation and the marking of GTINs is made at the discretion of the brand
owner.

other (components)

Meaning "the rest (of the components)".

And I believe that "Natrium" should read "Nutrients".

Show nutrients: per 100 gram | per serving...
...for each of the 8 specified nutrients per 100 kcal and per serving...
Nutrient profile models calculate the content of key nutrients per 100 g, 100 kcal, or per serving size of food.

To be more convincing about "nutrients" I can give the latest example of a nonsensical word in a specialist text: www.proz.com/kudoz/5724542 ("tool department" instead of "tool-dependent").
