" What I didn't pick up on Miami Vice I got rfom The Reader's digest. Now tell me the truth_ how many times are we go through this?"

I wonder what the Miami Vice means? And what the sentence means?

Thanks!

he got his knowledge from "Miami Vice" TV series and from "The Reader's Digest" magazine

Miami Vice is a TV series about a police squad in Miami.

Reader's Digest is a popular magazine with a simplified articles on many different topics.

So, Eddie jokingly explains to the custom officers where his knowledge comes from. ;-) They know that he was carrying a pack of heroin but do not understand how he managed to get rid of it.

-----------------------------------

"Give me a break," Eddie said. "You were in my face so close to look at my pupils I thought you were going to soul-kiss me. You know I wasn't on the nod."
The third Customs agent looked disgusted. "For an innocent lambikins, you know an awful lot about dope, Eddie."
"What I didn't pick up on Miami Vice I got from The Readers' Digest. Now tell me the truth¯how many times are we going to go through this?"
A fourth agent held up a small plastic Baggie. In it were several fibers.
"These are filaments. We'll get lab confirmation, but we know what sort they are. They're filaments of strapping tape."

I mean, the Customs agent is suspicious about Eddie\'s good knowledge of drugs, but Eddie explains that anyone who watch TV or read popular magazines will know much enough about drugs. :)

agree Tony M : I think the cultural point is that MV would give a gritty, 'realistic' view of the drugs underworld, whilst RD gives a sanitized, simplistic, middle-class (but possibly alarmist) one; so his knowledge of drugs is 'comprehensive' (with heavy irony)

Eddie managed to hide the pack with heroin, so now he feels safe :) + Yes, they show a lot of American TV series in the FSU, and I remember they showed MV (though I've watched just a couple of series)
