English term

praeters syndrome / disease

English Medical Medical (general) metabolic disorder or imbalance
I am a parent of a developmentally delayed child who merely looks at food and gains weight. It is a real problem. Someone suggested he may have praeters syndrome or praeters disease. I would like to look it up and learn more about it to see if it "fits" my son.

Nov 17, 2005 15:07: Anna Haxen changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): RINA LINGUISTIC SERVICES, Katarina Radojevic- Mitrovic, Veronica Prpic Uhing, Anna Haxen

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Sorry for my belated thanks. I am glad if it's helpful. Thank you very much!
Piotr Sawiec Nov 17, 2005:
I am not quite sure what does this "merely" means in your sentence. As I understand, your child hardly eats and gains weight. If it is the truth, then PWS is less likely. Children with PWS eat everything that they have in their reach.

Dear Marlene,
I was in fact working on a translation of prader-willi when the question came thru. Please contact www.eurordis.org for more info. They specialise in rare diseases and I'm working for them now. They are creating lots of help/support lists.
