: "Answering" such questions is more harmful than helpful to a student: no teacher is going to accept full-fledged, colloquial Spanish (or French/Italian/English/Latin/etc.) as written by their student, and may well give a zero for plagiarizing.

My point is this must be the only SC where people gladly translate entire e-mails, love letters, essays and, as we saw some weeks ago, even whole medical dictionaries...
As I already stated a couple of days ago, you can't learn a language by letting others do your homework, something you should know as an educator...
If they don't bother to give some explanation about the words or parts of the sentences they don't understand, this looks like site abuse to me. Some questions further, John and Deborah turned miraculously back into Rob, with the explanation that they need it for a school project (could have been a tattoo as well, for that's another explanation which turns up frequently ...) and that 3 more questions would follow (even if I squashed more than 3 different questions).
As I squashed the questions, I could have answered them as well (even though I'm not that fluent in Spanish, I can handle this kind of questions) and get me 40 KudoZ or so in a couple of weeks, based on the agrees of the collegues. But I consider this unfair towards translators working in languages and SC where this is not tolerated. BTW, it would be great if the moderators of the different SC's could agree on what's acceptable regarding homework, mails, etc.
Post 5 homework questions in Eng > Fr, Fr > Eng, Eng > Lat or Lat > Eng and see what happens...
Post 3 anonymous questions in Eng > Por or Por > Eng and take shelter :o)
Just a few thoughts...
And now I'm off to bed, it's 1u30 a.m. in Europe.
Hasta luego!
