inglés al español Mercadeo Mercadeo / Estudios de mercado
The Internet has played a huge role in the accessibility of hard-to-reach brands that were once only available in major cities to those "in the know."

Olga Alex Dec 14, 2009:
El problema aquí es que los "entendidos" son los que tienen grandes conocimientos de algo, y el texto no se refiere a eso, sino a las personas que conocen esas marcas, que están "enterados" de la existencia de esas marcas por el motivo que sea.
Peter Guest Dec 14, 2009:
entendido/enterado Freiexenet, a misunderstood brand of ever there were one, ran an add for their excellent Brut Nature whose headline ran "Como distinguir entre un enterado y un entendido" The eneterado preferring more expensive inferior products, the entendido preferring the superior Freixenet Brut Nature (a brand suffering the adverse effects of its poor but popular and populist relation Carta Nevada

los entendidos - los más "in"

if the people in the know refers to people whose judgement is based on knowledge of quality and not merely of fashion those in the know can be referred to (in Spain) as "entendidos". These would choose a wine for its quality or distinctive characteristics rather for its label, price or reputation.
Those who follow fashion and trends may be referred to (albeit sometimes sardonically) as los más "in" who like whatever is "in" (fashion)

Se me ocurre también "los informados"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Peter Guest : enterado often has negative connotations, meaning a person who pretends or imagines he is in the know, but falls pitifully and absurdly short.

Esa es una acepción de "enterado" (Que presume de saber mucho de algo), pero hay otra que es "conocedor de algo". No siempre tiene un sentido peyorativo, según cómo se use.
