The Internet has played a huge role in the accessibility of hard-to-reach brands that were once only available in major cities to those "in the know."

los entendidos - los más "in"
if the people in the know refers to people whose judgement is based on knowledge of quality and not merely of fashion those in the know can be referred to (in Spain) as "entendidos". These would choose a wine for its quality or distinctive characteristics rather for its label, price or reputation.
Those who follow fashion and trends may be referred to (albeit sometimes sardonically) as los más "in" who like whatever is "in" (fashion)

: enterado often has negative connotations, meaning a person who pretends or imagines he is in the know, but falls pitifully and absurdly short.

Esa es una acepción de "enterado" (Que presume de saber mucho de algo), pero hay otra que es "conocedor de algo". No siempre tiene un sentido peyorativo, según cómo se use.
