English to Spanish Law/Patents Law (general)

Hola a todos,
Estoy traduciendo unas capitulaciones matrimoniales y ahí va mi duda:

"The taxes on income and/or capital of both spouses, OWING ON ANY GROUND WHATSOEVER, for which a combined assessment has been made on one of the spouses, will for each of the spouses separately according to the income or capital of each of them be calculated."

El problema es que OWING ON ANY GROUND WHATSOEVER, pensé que podría traducirse por algo así como: que se deban por cualquier motivo.
Pero más adelante, en otra cláusula hablan otra vez de GROUND, entonces me confunde un poco porque no sé si GROUND aquí se refiere a "terreno, tierra...". Lo que dicen más adelante es lo siguiente:

"The right to a settlement on theses GROUNDS lapses six months after the date of the definite assessment".

En resumen, no sé si el sentido de GROUND aquí es el de MOTIVO, FUNDAMENTO.... o el de TERRENO, TIERRA... Sobre todo me confunde la segunda parte.
