Can You Reset an IBM Laptop Battery Meter?

IBM laptops, such as the Thinkpad, contain rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that are long lasting and quickly charged with your computer's power cord. The laptop's battery is controlled by a program within the laptop's operating system. This program also lets you reset the on-screen battery meter. The meter needs resetting if the battery meter is not reflecting the true power level of the battery after the battery is charged or the meter is showing different readings rapidly.

Navigating to the Power Manager Setting
Click "Start," "All Programs," "ThinkVantage." Select "Power Manager." The Power Manager is the control program for your IBM laptop's battery, "sleep mode" functions and "Global Power Settings."

Resetting the Battery Meter
Click on the "Battery Information" tab. On the left side of the "Battery Information" window, you will see your computer's battery meter and the current power level of the battery. On the right side of the window, you will see the number of batteries installed in your laptop. Click on the "Battery Maintenance" button. Click on the "Perform Reset..." button. The "Battery Gauge Reset" dialog box will open. If you have any other open applications running, close them now. Also, make sure your laptop's power cord is connected to your computer. Click "Continue" to reset your laptop's battery meter.

Resetting
The Battery Maintenance application will fully charge your laptop's battery, fully discharge the battery and fully charge the battery again. The process takes anywhere from four to five hours. The Battery Maintenance application recommends you don't use your laptop during the battery meter reset process.

вот тут описывается, что эта функция сделает с батареей:
1. сначала полностью ее зарядит
2. потом разрядит полностью
3. потом снова полностью ее зарядит.
Эта штука, на самом деле, годится лишь тогда, когда батарея уже почти "мертвая". Иначе же, если прогнать функцию на нормальной батарее, это приведет к сильному снижению емкости оной. Вот тут http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/... один парень рассказывает, как он сделал "прогон" этой функции на своей еще вполне живой батарее, в результате чего емкость ее упала почти в 4 раза... ((
