Inclin să cred că, totuşi, au fost denumite aşa în opoziţie cu teritoriile străine (overseas) ocupate. Stabilindu-li-se limitele suveranităţii la ”home islands”, li s-a spus ”staţi la voi acasă”, adică în insulele de baştină, originare.

asta ar fi sintagma pe care am găsit-o până acum cam pe tot netul. dar toate au în primul rând referinţă geografică. cu asta s-ar pierde din sensul istoric, referinţa la WW II. dar pentru aceasta încă nu am găsit o variantă acceptabilă.

: Scuze, Oana. Am observat ulterior ca ai sugerat si "insula principala". Din referintele pe care le-am gasit atat in romana cat si in spaniola, ideea e asta: insulele mari/principale. :-)

| hmm... nu cred că e ca şi homeland/hometown/home whatever... acestea sunt "the Home Islands" - au fost numite aşa doar într-o anumiă perioadă istorică şi de către toată lumea, nu doar de japonezi sau localnicii insulelor respective.
