English term

TROPHY HUNTING

Non-PRO English to Portuguese Other Environment & Ecology Nature Conservation, sustainable development, etc.
The term “TROPHY HUNTING” is here used to refer to hunting that is:
● Managed as part of a programme administered by a government, community-based organization, NGO, or other legitimate body;
● Characterized by hunters paying a high fee to hunt an animal with specific “trophy” characteristics (recognizing that hunters each have individual motivations);
● Characterized by low off-take volume;
Usually (but not necessarily) undertaken by hunters from outside the local area (often from countries other than where the hunt occurs)

Discussion

Nick Taylor Nov 14, 2012:
Hunting Big game hunting is Trophy Hunting. You don't go out and kill it and leave it. You take the head, or the skin, or the tusks, or whatever trophy you want to hang on the wall (or on the floor if its tiger skin rug)
The whole concept of Big Game Hunting or Caça Maior is that the trophy is IMPLICIT.
But if your getting paid bty the word, go for it! :-)

I think both are OK

Entao: shall I go with "a caça com características de troféu" ou "a caça dos animais selvagens com características de troféu?"
Then I would say: características de troféu:

@ Salvador Not excatly. This is not about the whole body of the poor animal, but rather a part of it, like the horns or the hooves. for example. This is a set term used by environmentalists in their official literature. / My concern is about the right preposition in Portuguese: "de" or "a."
It means a special type of animal, that is so unique that is a trophy hunt for a hunter. In this case I would translate literally as "troféu", or "especial",
