Dear colleagues,

In the western film that I am translating, an improvised military trial is taking place.
The characters act and talk as if they are truly at a military court session, although they are actually inside an abandoned cabin. They are all members of the US army and they are going to judge a man for desertion under fire, now that they have finally caught him.
Six years have passed since the accused deserted under fire. He claims he was running to get some help during the ambush they fell into, but the truth is he ran away to base camp and never went back to help his men. He was given a medal, for bravery and has spent six years without seeing or knowing what has become of his detachment.

When the judge advocate is opening the session, he says: "This military court is now in session. It is convened to **set straight the official army record**" and later on : "we're going to **set the record straight**".

Any bright ideas, please? I think the detachment men think he was given the medal and he didn't deserve it However, I need someone else's views to confirm my own.
