English term

exvoltage

English to French Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation
"Exvoltage of the thermo electrical power plant of XX"

J'ai des doutes sur la traduction de ce mot.

Discussion

Tony M May 16, 2008:
Yes, in that case, it's quite clearly the typo suggested by Arnold — and that also explains the apparently odd use of the preposition 'of'
Martine COTTARD (asker) May 16, 2008:
Hello Tony and everyone. Thank you for the suggestions too. The whole sentence is "Exvoltage of the thermo electrical power plant of XX(name of the town) through the installation of 2 x 17 MW fuel oil generator motors..."
Tony M May 16, 2008:
Is it possible this might be non-native English? Could it possibly be some kind of error?
Tony M May 16, 2008:
I think you may need to give us a bit more context to be sure just what is going on here, Martine. In particular, it might help to know what type of document this appears in, and also if XX is the name of a company, or a town/district, or whatever?

tension d'excitation

une suggestion...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Good stab, but it seems unlikely that they would refer to something as specific as 'excitation voltage' for the general case of a whole power plant

tension non pondéré ou tension d'extinction

Bonjour,
Je pense que "ex" est une abbréviation. J'ai trouvé dans le grand dictionnaire les termes "extinction voltage" = tension d'extinction et "external voltage" = tension non pondérée ; à voir avec votre contexte.
