"The booming demand for ethanol has led to the characterization of certain corn hybrids as High Fermentable Corn (HFC). These hybrids, when processed through a dry grind ethanol facility, increase ethanol output by 3-5%. The hybrids used as HFC are generally elite hybrids that growers are already using. No premiums are currently being paid as the value to the processor is not enough to do so. Growers who are investors in a facility may realize a benefit from their investment which encourages them to use HFC hybrids. Generally all bio-tech corn hybrids are accepted by ethanol plants."
