由于后面用了情态动词should而非were或者are, 那么前面的I don't see why 的意思不是简单的“我不明白为什么”,而是“我看不到。。。的理由”,“我不认为。。。得(should)”


我不认为发展中国家的孩子{就得}比其他国家的孩子更多地受制于单一的选择。

或者比较忠实于原文字面的翻译:

我不明白为什么发展中国家的孩子{就得}比其他国家的孩子更多地受制于单一的选择。

the sentence is a bit difficult in the first sight. In my opinion, the author is doubt about the birth control policies in developing countries (e.g. China), and he hold the opinion that, now that so many babies are borne then in the developed countries, the only one option shall no longer be stuck. in fact, here,
any more than : with the numbers any more than those borne
