IMHO, "ceremony" might be a more appropriate term here.
The problem is with 先进 now. If we translate it as "Advanced Commendation Ceremony", it is awkward and misleading, right?

: interesting isn't it. Could depend how 'Chinese'(and formal) you want it to sound, or whether you want it translated over into a Western equivalent. The definition of '先进' reminds me of 'excellence'...

: We would probably call them "Excellence Awards" in this part of the world and this society...(does '先进 = advanced' derive from Marxism I wonder?, in which case do you keep the ideology in or replace it with something else more 'Western'...)
