Glossary entry (derived from question below)
Arabic term or phrase:
ردحاً من البكاء
English translation:
a great deal / an awful lot of tears
Arabic term
ردحاً من البكاء
I'm working on a Palestinian text, and I think I know what this means, but just want to confirm please.
In this scene, there is a woman who collects photos of dead children.
صورة بعينها لفتاة غزية لازمتني ردحاً من البكاء، كانت في العاشرة، أصغر قليلا أو أكبر قليلا ....
So I think it should be something like:
A particular photo of a girl from Gaza made me cry for a long time ....
Does that sound about right?
Thank you!

Proposed translations
a great deal of tears
ردَح بالمكان: أقام فيه
رَدَحَ الرَّجُلُ : أَصَابَ حَاجَتَهُ
Ref: almaany
All these meanings boil down to "took/had enough of s.t. Hence, in order to have/take enough of s.t, you have to have plenty of it.

You may even consider blending both as follows:
"... cried her heart out a great deal together with me. "
" ........ together with me a great deal."
Is the 'together with me' from لازمتني? |

While watching a program with Marlon Brando pleading for "minorities, he used a phrase that I thought might better render the meaning of ردحا. I am sure you will also appreciate "an awful lot".

Further details as they occur to me;
1. لازم المكان stick to the place, i.e the same place.
2. لازم مروان رشيد Marwane stuck with Rashid.
3. لازمتني stuck together with me. You can't stick together with someone without sharing their everything.
Absolutely.
