sistema de fotocopias

Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy Uruguayan Educational Certificate

From a Uruguayan educational certificate. What exactly is "sistema de fotocopias" here? It can't be photocopying system - that doesn't make any sense. Group of photocopies, maybe? TIA once again for any enlightenment you can provide.

Non-ProZ.com Feb 8, 2005:
Still a little confused Thanks for the help about the "testimonio". But I'm still a little confused about the "sistema de fotocopias". Here's what I have currently:

"IN WITNESS WHEREOF, on the application by [student] by means of photocopies and for the presentation thereof to whom it may concern ..."

Have I got this right, do you think? Something tells me there's still some room for improvement ...

I meant choose :)
MPGS Feb 7, 2005:
testimonio = notarial certified copy (pls look-up KudoZ Search and coose)
:)
Non-ProZ.com Feb 7, 2005:
Just to clarify The [...] after "a solicitud de" is the student's name. So I think the student has applied for these photocopies. "El presente" is the "testimonio" (testimony?).
MPGS Feb 7, 2005:
Either that or the notary is making photocopies of documents and sealing the photocopies to witness that they match with the original. ('Sistema' here is a poor rethoric ressource to emphasize a mere photocopy. )
:)
Non-ProZ.com Feb 7, 2005:
So the student has applied for this certificate or whatever using photocopies?

El original es muy farragoso y gramaticalmente cuestionable

agree Manuel Cedeño Berrueta : "Farragoso", ésa es la palabra. Simplemente se trata de una copia certificada [certified copy]

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Many thanks for your assistance. However, you never answered my follow-up question, which is simply: is this translation right? "IN WITNESS WHEREOF, upon the application by [student] by means of photocopies and for the presentation thereof to whom it may concern ..." I'm not entirely sure I've got it right. This text certainly is very confusing. If you could provide a little additional advice post-grading, that would be great. But one thing that is clear: "sistema" is entirely redundant. Thanks again for your help, and thanks also to the peer graders for their input - much appreciated."
