Spanish term

prendas morales

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I'm translating a short novel in which this terms appears and I just can't come up with a suitable translation. Spanish from Spain to US English.

Context: A female android has been freed from slavery and is having a conversation with one of the employees of the lawyer who freed her.

...her physical attributes and moral...

@PG Yes Phil, Elizabeth could be talking about the garments in her own wardrobe!

It's funny that you're asking a question about your own name!

moral qualities

7. f. Cada una de las perfecciones o cualidades físicas o morales que posee una persona. Hombre de prendas.

Sin.:
virtud, cualidad, facultad, dote, atributo.
RAE

Moral qualities are essential facets of human character that define our worth and guide our interactions. Before delving into the characteristics and significance of these qualities, let’s begin by understanding the term “moral” and what it entails.

Peer comment(s):

agree Toni Castano : "Moral qualities" is the right rendering. DRAE (7), your quote, explains it clearly.

Thanks! I would keep the Sp format since I detect a certain irony.

Moral attributes /traits

Lampard chose not to challenge her claims about her physical qualities and *moral traits/attributes/proclivities*.
Peer comment(s):

agree Eileen Brophy : I would opt for Moral Attributes, Andrew

Yep, thanks
agree Agustin Brignolo : I have the slight feeling the original source is playing with “looks”, so I’d go with Attributes. | “her physical features and moral attributes”

Thanks
agree Beatriz Ramírez de Haro : Ditto.

Thank you;
neutral philgoddard : This is fine too, but qualities and traits/attributes are near synonyms, so you don't need to say both.

Physical and moral attributes?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Toni Castano : Interesting, but if you omit "prendas", as you do here in your translation, what is the point of managing a difficult source like the one of "prendas morales". Simplification does not always work automatically.
10 mins
I wouldn't say the source is particularly difficult. Simplification doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.
neutral Andrew Bramhall : This is often used pejoratively though, i.e, implying a lack of them.

moral fibre

I see the sentence as about both physical and moral strengths rather than qualities alone.

possessing moral fibre means to have the courage of your convictions, the ability to do what is right.
Peer comment(s):

agree Yvonne Gallagher : Yes, think this is most natural here

Many thanks, Yvonne!
neutral Andrew Bramhall : It's more abstract and general IMO;//no YOUR version is more abstract than the sense intended here!

Au contraire, I wd have thought! Moral fibre is a pretty well-known term, with a definite definition (as described above) whereas moral traits, etc., seem rather more vague to me, and - in my eyes - not quite as apt or as neat
