Italian term
tessuto a trecce
Italian to English
Other
Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
textile production
The context is a book on men's tailoring, and this term appears in a list of fabric types:
I have asked the client what they mean by "trecce" and they definitely are NOT referring to a cable knit.
There is an image of this supposed "tessuto a trecce", but it's just a plain weave rotated 90 degrees. I would have said they meant twill (diagonal weave) but the image provided isn't that it all. Any ideas?

interlock knitted fabric

I just saw the image you have now provided. How is this not simply a braid?

Note from asker:

: You haven't given any references, but I think that's "maglia intrecciata".

My reference is thge Bekleidungs-Worterbuch in 5 languages, however there is no entry for "tessuto a treccia". I am assuming her client is using loose terms and trying to make an inference.

braided fabric
the client explanation seems to suggest braided.

By the way, I understand it to read "trecce", not " tessuto a trecce". Also, I belueve tessuto means any fabric, not necessarily woven on a loom.

I don't want to post an answer because this is a duplicated question. There's no point adding yet another entry to the glossary.

Note from asker:
Thanks but none of those references are the type of material the author is referring to. AFAIK you can braid yarn together but the result is a braid (and indeed one of your references says "tubular"), not flat fabric. A weave by definition has to have a warp and a weft, while a braid is three or more strands braided together, not necessarily on a weaving loom. |
Alright, the responses here have convinced me it's just a braid. Do you want to add an answer so I can select it? |
This is actually a note to dandamesh: that image you linked to is NOT fabric. It's sewing thread that's packaged as a braid! You are meant to remove each individual thread and use it to sew with. |
