French term

composition

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
In a write-up about Building Information Modelling (BIM) used by an engineering and architecture firm, it says

...Modèle 3D constitué d’objets enrichis de données structurées (Nature, composition, comportement…) du projet.

Does anyone know what 'composition' is referring to?

Thanks.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

I found this link that talks about BIM models:

I would have thought that "nature" here has the feeling of "purpose" to it, as in the nature or purpose of the project design...but that would be another kudoz question. :)

Thanks Phil and Ben. What the 3D model is made up of sounds right. I was thinking ‘building elements’ rather than just materials, as a 3D BIM model also includes data about the building structure.

And so ‘nature’ refers to the characteristics of the materials and structural components of a building?

materials

While I agree with Phil about the meaning, the word "materials" might fit better in the context.

material structure

Given the added context, I believe that the "composition of the construction elements" refers to the structuring elements, i.e. to the structure itself:

Wood combines relatively high mechanical strength with low weight. This characteristic is based on the cellular structure of wood with specialized cells with an optimized arrangement of the cellulose fibrils in the S2-layer of the cell wall.

Material Structure
The first thing you may have thought of when you hear "structure" is the arrangement of materials in a bridge or building. This idea for structure is similar to the structure in any given material, called material structure.

The material structure also results in low shrinkage during cooling, and resistance to plastic deformation.
