The asked term is a two word phrase. While the word "courses" contains many meanings and may include the required meaning, nevertheless, it is more preferred to leave no space for the reader to think about what would be the most appropriate meaning for a word, therefore, including the word study in the translation is to be precise about the intended meaning. Further, when you come to translate the whole sentence... as a translator, you can't find a better translation than "study courses". If you say "courses" only the reader will wonder what type of courses, and if you say "courses of study" it's redundant and won't fit perfectly in the sentence. Thus "study courses" is the most appropriate and precise translation to fit in to the final translation of the sentence as a whole.
