French term

longue à l\'oeil

French to English Marketing Automotive / Cars & Trucks
This is a focus-group survey of expensive-car owners, to canvass their opinions of proposed new car designs. The "in your own words" feedback includes "Il faudrait un look plus carré, ils ont fait cette espèce de bulle, la voiture elle paraît tellement **longue à l’œil …**"
I have a hunch but don't want to share it so as not to influence your suggestions :-)
Many thanks as always!
By the way this is French French.

stretched? this is what I understand, although the concept is less popular in France than in Americas

@ Wendy ...so potentially kudos Wendy :-) ?
Rimas Balsys (asker) Dec 14, 2016:
@ All I'm wondering whether you're overthinking it.
I'm leaning towards something like "It should look squarer, they've made it roundish which makes it look elongated..." ??
Rimas Balsys (asker) Dec 14, 2016:
@ Tony Aye, indeed :-) -- Hence my trawling for ideas...
Tony M Dec 14, 2016:
@ Asker Thanks!
On the face of it, the text seems to me a little contradictory; on the one hand, they say that "they've made this sort of bubble" — which sounds more spherical to me — and then they say it "appears long", which seems the opposite.
Rimas Balsys (asker) Dec 14, 2016:
@ Tony Sorry, simply thought it could mean, more or less literally: "looks long" / "long looking".
Seemed a trivial idea, thought someone else could do better :-)
Tony M Dec 14, 2016:
@ Asker You really SHOULLD share with us your "hunch" — it's not fair to prospective answerers not to state what you are considering and/or have rejected (as per KudoZ asking instructions!)

looks so long with the naked eye

looks so long with the naked eye
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : It doesn't say 'œil nu', and I'd avoid creating an opposition — as if to imply it might not look so long through binoculars, etc.

neutral B D Finch : So the car doesn't wear glasses when it stares at people?!

it would be exactly in reverse...

easy/ not so easy on the eye

Circumnavigate literalism by going for a more generic comment; if the comment is meant positively, go for " easy on the eye", if negatively, " not so easy on the eye";
