I need to know how to express the notion in English. Below is an explanation in Italian I found but I am unable to trace it back to any corresponding English concept.
l'identita' contabile e' un’uguaglianza valida in modo incondizionato e cioè verificata a prescindere dal valore assunto dalle variabili che compaiono in essa e quindi è verificata per definizione

Here’s what happens: you start with an accounting identity, in this case savings = investment, and treat it as a causal relationship – savings => investment – imagining that this excuses you from the need to lay out a mechanism for this alleged causation
In Italian:
Ecco che cosa accade: si comincia con una identità contabile, in questo caso i risparmi sono eguali all’investimento, e la si tratta come una relazione causale (i risparmi sono eguali o superiori all’investimento), immaginando che ciò vi esenti dalla necessità di esibire un meccanismo per questa pretesa causalità.
