About Consistency
Definition:
Operating Consistency refers to performing job activities according to standard operating procedure, i. e. doing the same thing the same way every time. Operating Consistency is one way to control variance that may be added into the process by “man” or “methods”. There are might be (as an example) standards: administrative; operational (main activity i. e. producing or servicing); safety, health and environment; economic; accounting; ecological; commercial activity (sales); and so on.
In order to achieve operating consistency or, in other words, to do their business effectively, companies must standardize their processes. Companies interested in stabilizing and standardizing their processes should follow the SDCA (Standardize-Do-Check-Act) Cycle:
SDCA Cycle refers to (everytime performing your activity you should ask):
- Does a certain standard (for a separate operation unit or activity) exist?
- Did our firm follow the standard?
- Is the standard adequate?
Operating (or Operational) Consistency achievement
What does it mean?
Once a company has established standards of its activity, insures the standards are adequate and insures that employees follow the standards, then a company can say that their processes are standardized and stable (an operational consistency has been achieved).
