First of all, this is horrible Danish. Anyway, the way I understand this sentence is this:
"The device can be collected in other ways than by catching the fish; the device may float to the shore, or it may fall of after a while and can be found later."

: I have to agree here, too, because "collected by" is the correct translation of "hentes ad". I prefer "collected in other ways", though.
